Adults of all ages can work as event planners. According to research data from Zippia, the average age of event planners in the US is 37.6 years old. However, their research found that the majority of event planners (37%) are over 40 years old. Alternatively, 33% of event planners fall between the age 30-40 range, and 29% are between the ages of 20 and 30.

Job Growth

Job growth among event planners is rising rapidly, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID pandemic. While the majority of in-person events ended during the height of the lockdowns, demand for virtual events and experiences grew.

Despite pandemic-related setbacks, the demand for event planners is rising. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the need for event planners is projected to grow by 18% by the year 2030.

The pandemic forced companies to make a quick pivot to remote work, digital communications, and virtual corporate events. As life eases back to normal in many areas of the US, some companies will remain hybrid, splitting the difference between virtual and in-person work and events. If you’re interested in pursuing a career as an event planner, it’s important to obtain credentials that will prepare you for the job. Zippia’s data reveals that the vast majority of event planners (73%) hold a Bachelor’s degree. Those with Master’s degrees only make up about 6% of the demographic, while 17% hold Associate’s degrees. One percent of the people in event planning careers hold a high school diploma without further higher education.

Companies That Hire Event Planners

So what kinds of companies have event planner needs? Companies of all sizes, in many industries, need to execute on business event ideas--and need the personnel to coordinate them.

Most often, according to Zippia’s data, private companies hire event planners (50%), followed closely by public companies (47%). The most common industries where event planners work include

  • Finance industry
  • Manufacturing businesses
  • Professional corporations
  • Tech firms

Large companies are more likely to recruit and hire event planners than smaller ones. That’s because larger companies most often have budgets to support not only an event planner’s pay but the costs associated with hosting large corporate events. Forty-two percent of companies with 10,000 or more employees hire event planners, followed by 28% of companies with 1,000 to 10,000 team members.

Languages Spoken

A large number of America’s event planners speak a foreign language. According to Zippia’s research, 70% of event planners in the US surveyed speak Spanish. French follows at 15%, with 10% speaking Italian and 5% speaking Portuguese.
